As a Black woman leading Naturally Drenched, I've come to understand firsthand the unique challenges and triumphs that come with founding a beauty brand dedicated to our community. Despite the fact that Black women annually spend $7.4 billion on cosmetic products, brands like ours represent only 2.5% of the market. This stark statistic underscores the uphill battle we face in securing investors and funding compared to larger, more established brands.
One of the most daunting hurdles is the struggle to attract investors quickly. Many overlook the potential of Black-owned beauty brands, opting instead for safer investments. This reality often means we must bootstrap our way through, relying on our own resources and the support of our community to grow.
At Naturally Drenched, we pour our hearts into every product and initiative, striving not only to meet but to exceed the expectations of our diverse audience. We work tirelessly to ensure that our voices and the voices of those we represent are not just heard but celebrated.
Thankfully, there are organizations like the 15 Percent Pledge, Black Girl Ventures, Fearless Fund, and Brain Trust Founders Studio. These entities champion Black-owned businesses, providing resources, mentorship, and platforms for visibility. Their support is invaluable, helping us navigate the competitive landscape and amplify our impact.
Despite the challenges, every small victory reaffirms our purpose. Whether it's seeing how Naturally Drenched has positively transformed thousands of lives or witnessing stylists deepen their craft with our products, these moments remind us that our efforts are making a meaningful difference.
While obstacles persist for us and other Black beauty brands, we remain steadfast in our commitment to breaking barriers. We believe there is ample room at the table for diverse voices and visions. We're determined to forge ahead, knowing that our resilience and passion will continue to pave the way for greater inclusivity and representation in the beauty industry.
