Cosmoprof is a global beauty trade show served as a platform to connect with industry trailblazers. These opportunities are important because they give brands an opportunity to learn about new suppliers, and to make invaluable connections.
Danessa Myricks is not just a name in the beauty industry; she is a beacon of inspiration for women entrepreneurs, especially women of color. She took the time to speak with us, take pictures, and answer our questions about product development. Her openness and willingness to share her journey resonated deeply with me. In an industry that often overlooks smaller brands, her presence and support affirmed the importance of representation and mentorship. Meeting her reminded me that the path we are forging matters.
Another standout of Cosmoprof was reconnecting with Kile Hughes, my incredible former PR person from Six One Agency who helped put Naturally Drenched on the map. Kile is a true champion for BIPOC brands, tirelessly working to ensure they are seen and celebrated in the beauty industry. Her advocacy has been instrumental in Naturally Drenched’s journey, helping us gain recognition and open doors that might otherwise remain closed. Her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices reminds me why it’s essential to have allies who believe in your vision and are willing to fight for it.
Janelle Freeman is another shining light in my journey. Always available with guidance and support, Janelle’s expertise has been invaluable as I navigate the complexities of scaling a beauty brand. Her willingness to share insights and lend her time reflects the importance of mentorship and collaboration in this industry. It’s leaders like her who make spaces like Cosmoprof more inclusive and supportive for emerging entrepreneurs.
I also had the privilege of seeing Chris Hobson, the CEO of Rare Beauty Brands, at Cosmoprof. Being selected to participate in the Lift Beauty Accelerator was a game-changer for Naturally Drenched. Chris’s dedication to supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs in the beauty space is nothing short of extraordinary. The insights and mentorship provided through the Lift Beauty Accelerator have been instrumental in shaping my business strategy and growth.
These moments underscore why it’s so important for brands and leaders in the beauty industry to support entrepreneurs. Small businesses and emerging brands bring innovation, authenticity, and diversity to the market. By investing in and uplifting these voices, we create a more vibrant and inclusive industry—one that reflects the needs and dreams of all consumers.
